Spiraling Cross Handle

Spiraling Cross Shamanic Drum

The Spiraling Cross handle style is one of the more common styles that I work with, with each of the four arms of the handle being bound to an equal length, curving round in the same direction.

Similar to the Traditional Cross Handle, the four arms of the handle are associated with the Solar Cross, and can represent the four directions, the four seasons, the four elements, and many more associations.

This Spiraling Cross, as a variation of the Solar Cross is a symbol that was known to ancient peoples all around the world, and carved into rocks in this land in Ilkley Moor in the late Bronze/ early Iron age.

I visited this stone on Ilkley Moor in 2015 and began weaving this style into my drum ever since then.

This style, and its connection to this symbol connects us with the universality of these ancestral traditions, and is great for those who are wanting to work with their drum to connect with the wider web of life and cycles of nature.
