Our drum beaters are handmade with individually selected and cut pieces of willow wood, with a wool stuffed leather beater head

The Willow

The Willow is sourced from fallen trees in Kent, near to the river Stour. An offering is given to the land and the waters for each piece that is cut and prayers are sung to the remaining trees.

The Willow tree holds profound significance and symbolism in Celtic traditions, representing the qualities of resilience, intuition, and healing. Known as the Tree of Enchantment and Dreams, the Willow is associated with the realm of emotions and the feminine divine. Its flexible branches and graceful appearance embody adaptability and the ability to bend without breaking. In Celtic lore, the Willow is linked to the Moon, water, and the power of divination. The tree's affinity for water sources reflects its connection to emotions, intuition, and the flow of energy. The Willow is often found near sacred wells and springs, believed to possess healing and protective properties. Its branches were used in rituals and spells for love, fertility, and emotional balance. Additionally, the Willow's associations with mourning and death tie into the belief in the tree's ability to provide comfort and support during times of grief and transition. Overall, the Willow tree symbolizes emotional depth, healing, and the inherent wisdom of the feminine in Celtic traditions.

Sustainability

The wood for this beater stick is gathered by hand, with prayer and ceremony and offerings to the land. We are responsible in our harvesting, making sure that the tree and the forest can continue to thrive. The beater head is crafted from leather offcuts, so colours may vary slight from the picture, and filled with wool. All of the materials used in the crafting of the beaters is honoured during the process of being made, and the beater is blessed with incense to welcome it into being once it has been made.
